The puppy beats his heart
against his cardboard prison
but the old dog knows a plethora of pains.
The old dog circles three times
and settles in to wait,
savoring the overtones of heartache;
a connoisseur of loneliness and loss.

I find such acceptance to be rare, even in old dogs. Love the circling three times--I have observed this in cats and it makes a great metaphor.
What a sweet, little tale about dogs. I certainly feel for the old dog!! I love your unique perspective and creative take on this prompt.
i don't wanna be like that a connoisseur of loneliness...:)
nice take on connoisseur here!
thanks for taking part in my prompt this week...have a nice day!
You've layered the theme so well here. I really like this one.
The difference between innocence and knowing what lies ahead....So want to have the heart of the puppy and the wisdom of the old dog. Is that possible?
Gabrielle: Maybe so... just seems like with age comes a lot less drama.
The Write Girl: Thanks
Amity: Understandable, I think. Thank you.
Travis: Thank you so much.
Sandy: I wish that too... to be able to feel as strongly and not get hurt so badly... I don't think that's possible.
