Enthusiasm is Not a Disease

Why do all the young people at Wal Mart look so angry, while most of the older people look nice? Is this a generation thing? Trust me, older people have even more to be mad about, they've just figured out that looking mad all the time won't help anything. You don't look cool that way. You just look silly.

It also seems to be true to that attractive people are less likely to smile back when you smile at them. This isn't a hard and fast rule... one cute man smiled at me and six pretty women looked at me like I was nuts so gender might play an issue too...though I got lots of scowls from cute people under the age of thirty.

Why is this? It's silly. Being nice to the fat lady with the bad haircut won't make you ugly or old. Honest. Till you young and pretty people shape up, us ugly people are going to have a nicer shopping experience.

That's all I got for today. Hope your Monday is going better than mine.

Surly is chic these days. I love when I say, "Thank you," to a clerk and he responds, "No problem." Ridiculous, right? How 'bout smile and say you're welcome!

I hate this post because I know exactly how this feels. I'm sorry that you've had to feel it too.

It's unfortunate the basic common courtesy isn't more innate. And if it's not innate, it's a shame that companies in the business of customer service aren't teaching it to their employees, and requiring that they practice it.

Sandy: There are some generation gaps I understand a litt... 'no problem' is irritating but I kinda get that it's not intended to be rude. Plainly scowling at anybody remotely nice to you is just wrong. Makes me want to spank them.

Mags: Actually, I was having a rotten day but all the less than lovely people were having such a nice time at the store that I thought I'd post about the difference. Obviously, if having a practically perfect body makes people that angry, then losing weight won't automatically make me happy. Something to keep in mind, I guess.

Travis: It is really rotten when the surliness spreads to the employees. This kind of thing is contagious.
