Yay!

Congrats to Obama. I didn't see that coming but I think it's deserved.

I don't think anyone saw it coming-even his administration is said to have been taken aback. I'm on the fence about whether or not it's warranted this early on, but something Boston.com quoted really hit home:

"Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future," Jagland said.

I think that we Americans need to realize the impact he's made around the world-people have stopped to listen-something they haven't done in a long, long time.

Well I sure would like to know what he has done to earn it so quickly. Congrats to him however :)

Mags: I think that pretty much sums up my feelings.

Thom: I would add to what Mags has said that, from my admittedly biased perspective,he has acted as a peacemaker not only in being willing to talk with foreign governments that we have refused any discourse with in the past but also on divisive issues of race relations. Also, it seems from here, that he is willing to try and see other perspectives on all fronts. He has tried, with mixed success, to even make peace between the warring political factions in this country. He has been a beacon of hope for people all over the world who felt that the United States was starting to no longer stand for freedom, reasonableness, and it's own constitutional ideals... of course I know a lot of people disagree with me.

If nothing else, perhaps this award will remind folks here at home that the world continues to get smaller and smaller. Perhaps provincial thinkers might consider a more global view.

I guess there'd be more peace if there weren't so many pesky people in Obama's way.
