Pretend you are a soldier for a really big nation that you are really proud of and you've been sent to this tiny little place in the middle of nowhere to occupy it while the locals are being educated about how lucky they are to be included in such greatness.
It makes you angry how ungrateful they are... so, one day you see one of these guys set himself on fire to protest the occupation. You think to yourself, "what an idiot. I"ll teach him to kill himself trying to prove that we aren't as wonderful as we are." And so, you shoot him. Man, you sure told those ungrateful locals.

as for the post here - sometimes there are no logical answers...
Jeff: I just thought it was odd and was trying to figure out what the soldier might have been thinking at the time.
Mo: I made it using Blender which is an open source 3-D graphics software that is my new obsession. You can even do animation and design games with it... though I'm still trying to make a self-portrait with hair and clothing on it.
