I was doing some in depth research (reading a Wickipedia article (Should that "a" be "an"? I've seen it that way before and I understand why it might be so, but it sounds wrong to me.) on the subject of carbon dioxide because I'd like to figure out how to institute some local warming (As opposed to global warming). For instance, if we could take the CO2 from above where the polar bears live and put it just in the atmosphere of the San Luis Valley, maybe the snow here would melt and the polar ice caps wouldn't. It would be a win/win situation.
Co2 is interesting stuff. Just for fun, here is a list of things it's used for. Some of them I knew already, but some I didn't.
1. It is compressed to make dry ice.
2. It leavens most of our baked good.
3. You already knew that it's the fizzy part of pop.
4. It is used to put out fires.
5. It takes the caffeine out of coffee (which makes it partly evil, I think).
6. You already knew that it helps plants make sugar.
7. It is an inexpensive alternative to argon or helium in welding.
8. It is used as a compressed gas for pneumatic systems in tools.
9. It is used by some dry cleaners... I think as a solvent, but honestly I don't understand how that works. Maybe that'll be another post.
10. It reduces the viscosity of oil in oil wells, helping to pump the oil out of the ground.
Actually, there are several more uses too. If we could get it out of the atmosphere and store it someplace we could use it as we need it for various things... but there is so much of it that we'd end up having to store it on the moon or something. Also, while it isn't toxic, high concentrations of it in the air will kill you by suffocation... so storage locations should be carefully considered.

That's how they take caffeine out of coffee? I never knew that! Very interesting indeed...and yeah-evil!
PS. Thanks for entering the Life is Short: Eat Dessert First! contest. Remember that if anyone comes over and mentions that you sent them, not only will THEY get entered but YOU'LL get an extra entry too!
Good Luck Marilyn!
Mags: I'll do a post about that tomorrow. I want to win yummy stuff.
Hey people! Go enter and tell Mags I sent you.
Use "an" when it precedes a word that starts with a vowel ex. an apple. Use "a" when it precedes a word that starts with a consonant. ex. a jump rope.
Matron: I understand that, but is it the word that it precedes, or is it the word it refers to, that's important.
Wikipedia starts with a W, but article starts with an A. So then, the A refers to article and should be AN? Or is it that that the A precedes Wikepedia and is perfectly okay there. Is Wikepedia an adjective describing article? Or is it part of the name of the thing and so it's a noun? Am I just way over thinking this? I want to sound intelligent when I write... as impossible as that might be.
