Dona Nobis Pacem

Do some random acts of peace today. Here are some ideas (Only a few of them are political. I can't help it.)...

1. Don't torture anybody. It's illegal, immoral, and ineffective anyway. Instead, try using words to resolve conflict in your life and actually listen to what people want to tell you.

2. Don't shoot anything. You can kill things tomorrow if you must. Just for today, pretend you believe in karma and reincarnation. Eat a salad and say a prayer of gratitude, remembering that lots of people don't have enough to eat.

3. Smile. It's the most fundamental act of peace mongering available to all of us.

4. Mail some cash to somebody you know desperately needs it... not a lot, maybe $5.00. Don't put your return address on the envelope. If you don't know anybody for whom $5.00 would make a huge difference, mail it to a random address on the less affluent side of town.

6. Do something nice for somebody you don't like. Maybe compliment them... but do it sincerely.

7. If possible, walk instead of using your car for at least one short trip. Even better; take a bicycle.

8. Pet a dog or cat. This will make you feel more peaceful.

9. Have flowers delivered to the most angry person you know... the guy in church who always scowls, the recently divorced single mom whose husband left her for an exotic dancer, or the woman you borrowed a book from and forgot to return it till three years later.

10. Sing along with the radio. When the kids pull up next to you with their radios turned up too loud, see if you can find the station and join them for a moment. See if you can figure out why they do that and empathize. (Then let me know.)
